ST GALLEN, SWITZERLAND—The controversy about the effectiveness of mammographic screening was aired at the 2013 conference on “Primary Therapy of Early Breast Cancer” by Dr Donald Berry of the University of Texas M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While supporting current guidelines on screening, he explained to Peter Goodwin why the benefits are less than is often assumed and why he doesn’t support indiscriminate screening of women under 50 years of age.
